Dutch 19th Century painting

Pieter Christoffel Wonder, 1780-1852, De Tijd (Time) - 1810 (Rijksmuseum)

This old man is pictured with rotting cabbage leaves, scales, and a snake that bites its own tail,
all symbols of time.
Time, or chronos is derived from the Greek Kronos.
'Time' is often shown with a scyte, but such an attribute is really Saturn's,
Roman god of agriculture.
